Students at Pierrepont School recently participated in the first ever Hoops for Heart program, raising money for the American Heart Association. Ms. Mahoney, event coordinator and physical education teacher, is very proud of the students who participated. Collectively the students raised $6575.00! Hoops for Heart encourages students to take care of their heart through physical activity while making a difference in the lives of others. Building a Legacy
On March 9, the Rutherford High School production of “Disney’s High School Musical” had their final dress rehearsal. They invited the Pierrepont School Drama Club to watch. Many of the RHS students were involved in theatre during their time at Pierrepont, and were excited to see younger thespians sharing in their love of theatre. The Pierrepont students were mesmerized by their performance, and inspired to be like the actors on stage. 5th Graders Design Lunar Colonies
Students in the 5th Grade G&T classes worked to understand the challenges of establishing a lunar colony in this Project Based Learning Unit. Working closely as a team they explored the technological, societal and safety-related issues related to the habitation of the lunar surface. Using technology to research information about the moon, students completed engineering design journals in which they considered Energy, Transportation, Sustainability and Shelter Design. President’s Day Project
In honor of President's Day, Mrs. Fata's students conducted a research project on presidents. Each student was given a president to research online and through books from the library. Students wrote a report that included all important information and multiple fun facts. To go along with the reports the students also made "wearable posters" representing their chosen president. Students used yarn and cotton balls to depict the hair of the president. The poster had a cut out for the students to put their faces and arms making it wearable. Fifth Grade Novel Study
Mrs. Philp and Mrs. Smith's fifth grade classes are "Choosing Kindness" as they explore the novel Wonder, through a novel study. Reading about a fifth grade boy with facial deformity who is going to attend school for the first time, the students see how people treat someone who is different, learning not to judge a boy by the way his face looks. Through partner reading, small group and whole group discussions, and independent responses and reflections, students are able to more deeply connect to the novel while exploring friendships, family, and why it is important to choose kindness.
