Think Fast Hands-On Activity
At the end of January, Ms. Jarrett and Mrs. Macri’s grade four science class demonstrated the brain body connection as part of their Mystery Science “Human Body” unit. Each set of partners conducted trials in order to test their reflex reactions. Data was then recorded so the scientists could identify the fastest time for each person. Later, they referenced scientific vocabulary to adequately explain the body’s signals and the processes involved in effectively catching the ruler.
Pierrepont PE Goes Cross Curricular!
This year in Physical Education class, students have been engaging in cross curricular activities. Every Friday is "Fitness Friday" where students participate in the Pierrepont Amazing Race! The class begins by having students view where each grade is on the map and explaining which cardinal direction each grade has traveled in. Then, students choose to walk and/or jog for 20 minutes around the Gym. 33 laps = 1 mile! Laps are tracked by the PE teachers and logged at the end of each class period. Blizzard of Kindness
Mrs. DiStasi and 6th grade student ambassadors created a "Blizzard of Kindness!" Snowflakes with positive affirmations were collected from the entire school and displayed in the Gymnasium foyer. Sixth Grade Newton’s Car Project
The sixth grade students worked hard all quarter to learn Isaac Newton’s laws of motion and applied their knowledge of these laws to build a car that could move using an unbalanced force. The students presented their cars in class and described their experience using the Engineering Design Process.
