Board Game Day

As their reward for filling their Smiley Jar, Ms. Jarrett's classes earned a game day last week.  The games could only be board games and the students provided a various assortment. It was a nice reward after rigorous preparation and great focus on their state test. Students practiced interpersonal skills, turn taking, eye contact, following directions, strategy and teamwork while unwinding through good old fashioned play.

Mrs. Almaliah’s Students Recognized for Climate Innovation

What if the most promising climate solutions in the world weren’t coming from boardrooms… but from classrooms around the globe? Students in Mrs. Almaliah's 6th-grade Gifted and Talented classroom were asked, “What can we do about climate change?” Through the Climate Innovation Challenge, they identified what they care about in their communities, designed solutions to protect it, and shared their innovations through creative video storytelling with the world. Happy Spring! I know that we are all looking forward to some sunshine and warm weather after such a long, cold, snowy, winter. As the weather gets warmer please remind your students about the dress code. As a reminder shorts and skirts must be at least fingertip length and flips flops and other backless footwear are not permitted. NJSLA-A assessments will take place on May 5-7 (ELA Reading and Writing), May 11-12 (Math) and May 14-15 (5th gr. Science). All students will test during the morning session. Roller Coaster Engineers!

Students in Mrs. Colucci and Barone’s science class recently brought physics to life by constructing their own paper roller coasters! Using marbles to test their creations, students explored concepts like gravitational potential energy and energy transfer in a fun, hands-on way.
This engaging activity highlighted key PORG qualities. Students demonstrated critical thinking by asking questions, experimenting with designs, and learning from trial and error. Fourth Graders Create Earthquake Simulators

Fourth-grade students in Mrs. Stallone's STEM class learned about earthquakes and how engineers design buildings to reduce the damage they cause. Students made their own model buildings, using tuned mass dampers or base isolators to help the building stay standing. Students then used their SAMLabs kits to make an earthquake simulator that would shake, just like a real earthquake. The fourth graders put their designs to the test this week and enjoyed seeing the results of their hard work!
