A STEM experience to remember
Mrs. Herninko and several students from Union School welcomed 3rd graders from Washington School for a STEM experience to remember. The 3rd graders used zSpace to work with 3D models of animals and learn more about their adaptations. They were taught by our 3D printing team how to use TinkerCAD and all were able to 3D print their own personal keychains. Union School students instructed the 3rd graders on how to use the sewing machines. They visited with Mr. Helphingstine's robotics team and were able to drive the robots and compete with each other. STEAM Team wins VexIQ Qualifier
The STEAM Team won two awards at their latest competition: a first place trophy for "robot skills" and a second place trophy for "team skills." The robot skills part of the competition is based upon driving and coding ability. The team skills part of the competition is based upon strategy development. Union School visits first grade students
Students in Mrs. Mac-Doty's Pop Culture elective visited with first grade students at Washington School to share original stories and poems. After studying the 1970s and the impact author Shel Silverstein had on the decade, students created poems and illustrations to emulate his style. Poems were compiled into books, which were shared with the first grade classes, and each first grade student received a copy of his or her own.
