Union Middle School is very excited to be able to provide our students with academic, social, and emotional counseling throughout the school year. Our counseling team consists of Ms. Francesca Mastropierro, Leave Replacement Guidance Counselor, Mr. Anthony Tozzi, Guidance Counselor, and Mrs. Abbey Rabinovich, Student Assistance Counselor.
Ms. Mastropierro serves as guidance counselor for 7th-grade students. She oversees the Service Club, please contact her to become a member. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Social Work at Montclair State University. Before graduating, she interned at Brain Balance Achievement Center, an after-school program for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. It was then that she realized her passion for helping students academically, socially, and emotionally. She went on to pursue her Master’s Degree in School Counseling at Montclair State. During this time, she interned for a year and a half for the Director of Guidance, Dr. Shannon Hopkins, at Rutherford High School. Post-graduation, she obtained her Anti-Bullying Specialist certificate and became a member of the Bergen County School Counselor Association.
Mr. Tozzi serves as a guidance counselor for 8th-grade students. He is the National Junior Honor Society Advisor for 8th-grade students. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Montclair State University and then went on to earn a Masters Degree in School Counseling from Capella University. During this time, he coached varsity football and basketball – developing a love and passion for building relationships and mentoring adolescents.
Mrs. Rabinovich is the Student Assistance Counselor for all 7th and 8th-grade students. She was a guidance counselor for six years. As the SAC, she is an advocate for students and their families. She is available for individual and group counseling. She provides a safe, non-judgmental space to discuss any problems you or your family may be experiencing. She addresses prevention, intervention, and support services, often working with community resources to reduce risk factors and increase coping mechanisms. She serves as the Anti-Bullying Specialist, RTI Coordinator, Mindfulness Coordinator, and chairs the School Climate Committee.
