Under the direction of advisors Judith Leonard and Cherryl Bott-Melfa, students from Rutherford High School participated in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Competition on December 6, 2016.
Approximately 40 students competed in a variety of business-related events such as: Business Law, Sports and Entertainment Management, Advertising, Accounting 1, Marketing, Introduction to Financial Math, Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Business, Introduction to Business Communication, and Business Calculations. All competitive events were completed online in a computer lab. Students participated in these events along with FBLA members from the North Jersey region.
Students who place in the top ten at the regional level advance to the FBLA State Competition to be held in March 2017 in Atlantic City, NJ. This year’s regional winners representing Rutherford are Virgil Minnick and Madison Fahmy for Introduction to Business and Jillian Davis for Advertising.
In preparation for the State Competition, these students will continue practicing and studying for the competition. They will use the knowledge they have gained from their business elective classes and expand their knowledge by studying supplementary materials. The students who place in the top two spots at the State level will earn the privilege of participating at the national level in, Anaheim, California, for June 29 through July 2, 2017.
