The goal of the Social Studies Department at Rutherford High School is to help students become socially responsible citizens in a global society. Courses are offered in American and World History, as well as studies in contemporary issues, geography, economics, civics, and the social sciences. The Social Studies Department is dedicated to taking an inquiry-based approach to teaching, in which students will consider multiple perspectives, develop cultural understandings, and become effective communicators. Students will also further develop critical media literacy skills by analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information. These skills will prepare them to participate in their government and to make informed decisions about the world around them.
