This past weekend students Rutherford’s Junior States of America club (JSA) participated in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spring State Conference at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in Wood-Bridge, New Jersey. The organization’s goals are to promote civic engagement among students, as evident in the theme of the conference “Millennial Momentum: Turning the Tide of American Politics.” Over 300 hundred students from New Jersey to North Carolina met to discuss a variety of socioeconomic and geopolitical elements of the American Political System. Students engaged in debates, thought talks, as well as local and regional elections. I was blown away by the level of student engagement at the conference, as well as their dedication and hard work over the course of preparing throughout the year.
