The New Jersey Society of CPAs (NJCPA) annually offers all NJ high schools the opportunity to participate in its Career Awareness Program (CAP). The purpose of the CAP program is to expose high school students to the accounting profession through career presentations. This year Rutherford HS was one of the 98 high schools that participated in the CAP program.
Ms. Wendy Pinos, CPA spoke to Mrs. Judy Leonard’s Honors Accounting and Ms. Cherryl Bott’s Accounting classes. Ms. Pinos emphasized what a rewarding career accounting can be. The demand for accountants is high, as is earning potential, job security, and opportunities for advancement. Accountants are the backbone of the business world, they keep finances in check for everyone, help companies thrive in times of uncertainty, and implement new accounting technologies and systems. Ms. Pinos also detailed the difference between an accountant and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Our students learned a great deal from this real world interaction with Ms. Pinos.
