The Pierrepont Guidance Department has implemented a Peer Tutoring Program at lunchtime to help students with their studies. Sixth grade students who hold an A- average or better in Math or Language Arts provide the tutoring under the supervision of Mr. Siskas, Guidance Counselor. On May 23rd, 24th and June 7th Pierrepont school held Fitness Days. Physical Education teachers, Mr. Pampulevski and Ms. Mahoney, along with the PTA, ran the day. Students participated in various events and earned points for their homerooms. The end of the day culminated with a relay and the announcement of the class champion. Pierrepont School 5th graders have been participating in the Jets Play60 program, coordinated by Ms. Mahoney. Students have logged their active minutes and submitted their booklets in order to be entered into a raffle. Two students were randomly chosen, Jodi DeSalvo and Daniel Francisco. They will be receiving tickets to the Jets vs Dolphins game and will be honored on the field! In total our 5th graders were active for a total of 112,560 minutes! Fifth grade teachers and students at Pierrepont School look forward to the month of May. It is then that they continue on in their decade long tradition of observing the metamorphosis of the Painted Lady caterpillars into butterflies. Incorporating both language arts skills of writing butterfly poems during April's poetry month and science on the life cycle of animals, students develop a sense of respect and understanding for these and other creatures of the Earth.
