Mrs. D'Anneo's second graders listened to a story titled The Little Red House with No Doors, and No Windows, and a Star Inside to kick off Johnny Appleseed Day. Unbeknownst to the students, the "house" ended up being an apple! Mrs. D'Anneo showed the class how inside every apple lives a star.

Discovery Students Harvest Our Environmental Garden
Third Grade Discovery students enjoyed weeding and harvesting from the Washington School garden. The vegetables and herbs that were planted by last year's Discovery students (now at Pierrepont School), along with perennial plants that regenerated in the garden plots, have yielded quite a bounty. Students tasted yellow and red cherry tomatoes, kale, carrots, spearmint, peppermint, and Thai basil. Grade 3 Gardening
After NJSLA testing, grade 3 students participated in a lesson on seeds and planting, hosted by Computer Skills / Enrichment teacher, Ms. DeBouter. Mr. Charlie LoBello, a long-time Rutherford resident whose children attended Washington School, volunteered his time and expertise to engage the third graders in a hands-on lesson. Mr. LoBello and the Rutherford Shade Tree Commission contributed pots, soil, and seeds so that each grade 3 student could take home a potential plant.
