Mrs. D’Anneo’s second graders listened to a story titled The Little Red House with No Doors, and No Windows, and a Star Inside to kick off Johnny Appleseed Day. Unbeknownst to the students, the “house” ended up being an apple! Mrs. D’Anneo showed the class how inside every apple lives a star.
This activity ties in beautifully with our Word of the Week—Curiosity. Through reading a folktale, students’ curiosity was sparked as they wondered, imagined, and then discovered the surprise waiting inside the apple.
