For students in kindergarten, first, and second grade, the physical education program focuses on gross motor skills such as safe travel through space, locomotor patterns, and pathways with an emphasis on varying speed and direction. There will also be attention given to manipulative skills like kicking, throwing, and catching. All activities will reinforce social goals such as safe participation, sharing, and cooperation.
The third grade students’ physical education program encompasses a large variety of team sports and lead-up games like soccer, speedball, baseball, and gymnastics. Social goals will again be reinforced with a heavy emphasis on sportsmanship. Good sportsmanship and positive team behavior are essential to participation in all team and individual activities and will be recognized and rewarded on a regular basis.
