Under the direction of advisors Judy Leonard and Cherryl Bott, students from Rutherford High School participated in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Competition on December 5, 2017.
Approximately 40 students competed in a variety of business-related events such as: Business Law, Sports and Entertainment Management, Advertising, Accounting 1, Marketing, Introduction to Financial Math, Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Business, Introduction to Business Communication, and Business Calculations. All competitive events were completed online in a computer lab. Students participated in these events along with FBLA members from the North Jersey region.
Students who place in the top ten at the regional level advance to the FBLA State Competition to be held in March 2018 in Atlantic City, NJ. This year’s regional winners representing Rutherford are Madison Fahmy — Advertising, Emily Feza —Introduction to Business Communication, and Virgil Minnick — Introduction to Business Procedures.
In preparation for the State Competition, these students will continue practicing and studying for the competition. They will use the knowledge they have gained from their business elective classes and expand their knowledge by studying supplementary materials. The students who place in the top two spots at the state level will earn the privilege of participating at the national level in Baltimore, Maryland on June 28 through July 1, 2018.
