Students in Mr. Bach’s and Mr. Cuomo’s Social Studies classes recently studied Native Americans. As an extension activity for the unit, students dove deeper into meanings of totem poles. Students learned that the symbols on totem poles represent different meanings for each Native American family. Students then created totem poles that represent themselves by creating different animal faces based on their symbolic meanings and their relation to the individual student.
