In a fun twist on Election Day, Pierrepont School recently held a “Mock Candy Election” thanks to the hard work and creativity of sixth-grade teachers, Ms. Jacki Mann and Ms. Allie Herring and cooperation and support of the entire school. The event allowed students to dive into the basics of election processes while campaigning to find out the ultimate school favorite: chocolate or gummy candy!
As part of the experience, students learned about the basics from primary elections to the electoral college and more excitingly, campaign strategies. Students designed eye-catching posters and crafted speeches to advocate for their chosen candy. These persuasive speeches were even featured over the morning announcements, building excitement and encouraging students to engage in the voting process.
On November 4th, students took turns by homeroom to cast their ballots in a sweet showdown to decide which candy would emerge victorious. Through this engaging activity, Pierrepont students gained a hands-on understanding of elections, decision-making, and the value of a good campaign—sweetened by the reward of crowning a candy favorite.
