Pierrepont School was chosen by Google to participate in the Google Expeditions AR Pioneer Program! On October 27, approximately 300 students in grades four, five, and six were given the opportunity to experience this amazing new augmented reality teaching tool.
Google Expeditions AR (augmented reality) uses Google’s AR technology to map the physical space in the classroom along with 3D objects such as a beating heart, a swirling hurricane, a German U-Boat, or a rotating planet in outer space. Using “smart” devices with new AR technology, students can walk all around the objects, get in close to spot details, and step back to see the full picture.
Students were “wowed” as they watched the planets of our solar system rotating right in front of their eyes! The sight of a 3D volcano erupting right on their classroom floor was certainly something they had never seen before!
