Ms. McManus’ class took a field trip to Mount Rushmore…right from the comfort of Pierrepont School! The 6th graders got to test out the newest technology addition, virtual reality goggles, as they continue their novel study of “Walk Two Moons” by Sharon Creech. In the novel, the main character Salamanca visits the famed stone monument and contemplates how the Native American culture is not honored on the land they once inhabited. The students were able to walk in the shoes of the main character and explore Mount Rushmore for themselves. This launches a project in which the students will research Native American leaders and create a version of Mount Rushmore that honors their culture.
