This month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Creativity. Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity is characterized by the ability to perceive the world in new ways, to find hidden patters, to make connections between seemingly unrelated phenomena, and to generate solutions. Character Trait of the Month
This month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Fairness. Fairness is demonstrating impartial, unbiased, and equitable treatment of others. You give up personal interests, prejudice and favoritism. Fairness is defined by some as little more than “playing by the rules” and not taking advantage of others. Parents can teach this by taking turns, sharing and listening to what others have to say. Fairness does what is best for all, without favoritism, even though it may seem unfair at times. Back to School Night
I would like to invite you to attend Lincoln School’s Back to School Night on September 30th. This is an opportunity to meet your child’s classroom teacher and some special subject teachers as well. Teachers may present information on classroom routines and procedures, curriculum, special activities, and instructional materials. Most importantly, you get to view the learning environment of your child. At 7 p.m. there will be a Welcome Address in the gymnasium. Summer Learning
Many parents ask me how they can keep their children's skills on grade level over the summer. I strongly encourage parents to have their children do some academic work 30-40 minutes a day five days a week. Parents should not have young learners complete work all at once, but break it into sections. I try to infuse skills into my son's everyday activities. Reflections
The 2014-2015 school year was a huge success. Students learned math using Math in Focus program and often commented that math was their favorite subject! Many students loved using the SMARTBoard in the entire first through third grade classrooms for instruction. In reading, students were busy learning specific reading skills and then applying these skills to their independent books. Students learned about story elements, phonemic awareness, vocabulary usage, and comprehension. They also learned how to read with expression!
