This month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to stick with a project or goal until it is complete. We realize times may get tough and setbacks may occur, but you should keep working toward your goal. Character Trait of the Month- Courage
As introduced in last month’s newsletter, this month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Courage. You use courage when you are the first to try something. You use courage when you are frightened. You use courage when you learn something new or try something that is complex. Being brave enough to make mistakes and learn from them every single day, takes great courage. It does not mean you are fearless. It means that even though you have fear, you still try your best. Vocabulary Development
This year we will be continuing our initiative to build our students’ vocabulary. This improves comprehension and writing. Each week, each grade level will have exposure to four words throughout the day. Specialists, homeroom teachers, custodians, lunch aides and office staff will infuse these words in daily conversations. We know children need to hear a word multiple times before he/she can understand the meaning in text and use the new word in writing and speaking. Lincoln Character Traits and Contest
Lincoln School concluded the year-long character trait initiative in May. Character traits reinforced this year were:, respect, citizenship, wisdom, kindness, love, self-control and appreciation of beauty. Nominated students’ names were displayed on stars on our hallway Character Tree. Students also created posters summarizing what was learned throughout the year.
