It’s been a very busy week at Washington School . We kicked off “Read Across America Week” on Tuesday with the start of our Scholastic Book Fair. Students were able to preview books and make “wish lists”. On Wednesday and Thursday, the students were invited back to the book fair for shopping days. Thursday evening, the PTA held “Parent Shopping” where students were able to come back to school with their parents/guardians to shop.
Thursday we welcomed the first of two guest readers to our morning assembly. Councilman, Thomas Mullahey, recited the Reader’s Oath with the students and read “Wild About Books” (pictures below). The Rutherford High School “Hero’s and Cool Kids” club visited our school, with the Rutherford Bulldog Mascot, to read and a do a craft with our students (picture below are students from Ms. Kiley’s Grade 2 class with the Rutherford Bulldog). To cap off our busy, fun-filled week, New York Giants long snapper, Zak DeOssie, read “Football With My Dad” and “Green Eggs and Ham” to the students. (Pictured below is Zak DeOssie reading at our morning assembly.) In the afternoon, students had D.E.A.R. time (Drop Everything And Read). All of Washington School, students and staff, took time out to read a book of their choice. (Pictured below are students from Mrs. Kupryk’s Grade 3 class.)
