Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we move swiftly towards the holiday season, I am pleased with the progress we have all made through the fall, thus far. Our learning environment in the building has been very positive and energizing. Our students and staff have settled into productive academic routines as we’ve returned to fully, in-person learning once again. As things continue to get back to normal, please be on the lookout for information regarding Thanksgiving activities.
Thank you to all who attended and enjoyed our annual Halloween parade. It was great to bring back that long-standing Washington School tradition. Many of our students returned to school on the evening of October 29 to enjoy our Halloween Social. Thanks go out to the Washington School PTA and all of the parent chaperones for making the event possible. Thanks go to Nurse McShane and to Mr. Garcia and his staff as well.
Social Emotional Learning and Growth Mindset
In each of our classrooms, our teachers and students participate in stress-reduction activities that are designed to promote social and emotional growth and readiness. We also are getting back to activities that foster Grit and Growth Mindset. Please know that, as a staff, we recognize these may still be emotional times that many among us react to in different ways. I encourage you to reach out to me or to our Student Assistance Counselor, Ms. Emily Bregman, if we can be of further assistance to you and your child(ren).
Visit our Website
I hope you make it a habit of visiting our website regularly. On it you will find our school calendar listing upcoming events and notable dates. You will also get a look inside of Washington School as we frequently post fun and exciting things that are happening in our classrooms and around our school. Our district web address is www.rutherfordschools.org. Click on the Washington School link..
School Closures
Remember that we will have a One-Session Day on Wednesday, November 23. The Rutherford Public Schools will be closed Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25.
Morning Drop-Off
Thank you for your continued cooperation during our morning drop-off. We have cones to define the drop-off area. In order to improve our efficiency, please wait to drop off your child until you are one of the first 3 cars in line. The Drop Off Only signs will define this area. Please be patient, and refrain from dropping your child until you have reached this zone. Be reminded that this is a stop, drop and go zone. Parents should not get out of their cars. This impedes the flow of traffic. Please be very careful leaving the drop-off zone.
Lost & Found
We maintain a lost & found box for items that have gone missing. One way to ensure that your child’s belongings are returned to their proper owner is to label items with their name (lunch boxes, jackets, sweaters, hats, etc.).
