The final two months of the school year will be a busy time at Washington School. We kicked off the month of May with our annual Walk for Washington. Through our afternoon of exercise, students, staff, and parents raised money for the PTA while reminding us all to practice a healthy lifestyle. Our families have enjoyed visiting our school for our annual art show titled, “An Evening of Visual Arts”. Our students and staff recently celebrated “Poem in My Pocket” day. Please read on for more information about upcoming events.
Spirit Week
May 20-23 is Spirit Week at Washington School. Monday is Field Day. All students are to wear their Field Day t-shirts and sneakers. Tuesday is Hat Day. Wednesday is Pajama Day. Thursday is Red, White, and Blue Day. Reminder: The Rutherford Public Schools are closed on Friday, May 24.
Veterans Assembly
Our annual assembly honoring all local veterans will be held on Thursday, May 23. All of our students will be performing in honor of our local veterans through song, poems, and dedications. We also take time out to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice with a solemn ceremony that includes the playing of “Taps”. After our assembly, a continental breakfast is served. All local veterans are invited to attend. Please arrive by 8:15 a.m. As an additional tribute to our heroes, staff members will be participating in the Jeans for Troops fundraising effort.
Grade 3 Bike Rodeo
All grade 3 students will be participating in our 3rd annual Bike Rodeo. Sponsored by the Rutherford Green Team and under the direction of the League of American Bicyclists, the rodeo provides the opportunity for our students to learn valuable riding and safety skills in an interactive setting. Students who have not ridden before are taught to ride, usually accomplishing this goal by the end of the session. We are looking forward to this fun event.
