This week, our first graders at Washington School had some very special guest teachers—8th-grade students from Union Middle School! As part of a cross-grade collaboration, the middle schoolers planned and taught engaging 30-minute math lessons on first-grade topics like addition, subtraction, telling time, and identifying shapes. The 8th graders did a fantastic job breaking down concepts, creating interactive activities, and keeping our young learners excited about math. Third graders in Ms. Sampedro and Mrs. Podolanczuk’s class have been working hard on writing opinion essays in their final unit of study. Students collaborated in partnerships to develop strong claims and used evidence from articles to support their opinions.
