Studying the Workings and Designs of Bridges
The Grade 3 students in Ms. Hetzel and Mrs. Podolanczuk's class recently put their reasoning and creative skills to work, while discovering what makes a bridge strong. Through the Mystery Doug Science series, students viewed videos explaining the workings and designs of bridges. Students worked in pairs, using 2 pieces of paper and 50+ pennies in designing their own bridge. (2 large books were used as "banks" on the side of the bridge.) Our strongest bridge held 135 pennies!
