The Washington School students in grades 1 and 2 participated in Autumn gardening lessons with longtime Rutherford resident and Shade Tree Commissioner, Charles LoBello. Charlie generously shared his knowledge of horticulture, along with some wonderful soil. Pumpkin Math
Third-grade students in Ms. Sampedro and Mrs. Podolanczuk's class worked together in small groups to explore math in a fun, hands-on way! Using teamwork and multiplication skills, they discovered just how many seeds can be inside a single pumpkin. To their surprise, one pumpkin had over 400 seeds!
Lesson on Diwali
Students in Ms. Kosinska's first-grade class explored the traditions of Diwali, the Festival of Lights! This lesson focused on global traditions and fostered an inclusive environment that celebrates the cultural backgrounds of all students. They started by listening to a story and then connected it to real life, as classmates shared their personal experiences celebrating the holiday at home.
