Dear Washington School Parents and Guardians,
I hope that your first few days of remote/virtual learning went as smoothly as could be expected for you and your children. We have received a lot of positive feedback for which we are all happy and grateful. Yet, we are also aware that there will be challenges along the way and that the challenges may be different for each family.
With that in mind, I wanted to clarify our expectations with regard to time(s) on task. As you are aware, the school day is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. It is during those hours that assignments will be posted and shared. It is also the time frame when our staff will be directly available to you and your children.
We do hope that, within your capabilities, your children are actively engaged in their lessons and activities during the posted hours. However, we understand that your job responsibilities and other issues can make that schedule difficult to fully attend to. We want to be flexible to your individual family needs.
Therefore, your children can certainly complete their schoolwork at other times of the day (or even week) as well. You can submit assignments at alternate times also. Please try to do so in a reasonably, timely matter.
Regarding activities provided by Specials teachers, we are flexible with those as well. Please try to complete the assignment or activity within the day it has been assigned. If that is difficult to do, plan to complete the activity in a timely manner within the week.
We do suggest that you find time early in the morning to review any assignments with your children to determine what they can accomplish on their own with little or no assistance. Previewing the daily assignments will also allow you to reach out to your child’s teachers during the designated hours with questions you may have.
If you do have any questions or concerns regarding technology, specific assignments, time frame for completion, etc., please reach out to your child’s teachers. They are available to help you. Please note that while our teachers are preparing lessons at other times of the day, questions submitted after hours may not be answered until the following day. Try to reach out early in the day.
I am available, as well, should you have any additional questions and concerns.
We are all working together through this unprecedented situation. Please know we are here to support you and your children.
Be well.
Mr. Mulcahy
