The 2014-2015 school year was a huge success. Students learned math using Math in Focus program and often commented that math was their favorite subject! Many students loved using the SMARTBoard in the entire first through third grade classrooms for instruction. In reading, students were busy learning specific reading skills and then applying these skills to their independent books. Students learned about story elements, phonemic awareness, vocabulary usage, and comprehension. They also learned how to read with expression! During guided reading time, students worked with their teacher in small reading groups. Students also turned into authors this year. They displayed their writing, published books and maintained writing portfolios of their work. It was pure joy to watch a student to stop in the hall and read a peer’s published work.
Besides all the academic learning, our students had a wonderful time giving back to their community. Students collected mittens, hats, and scarves for those in need, wrote letters to those serving in the military, and donated food to the Rutherford Food Pantry. Lincoln students also gave back to their school by participating in the Great Kindness Challenge! We feel so fortunate to work in a community that values children, learning and community building.
Students are encouraged to spend their summer exploring their environment and reading some great books. Students should also practice those math facts so they are ready to go in September!
Enjoy the summer and see you in September!
