In February 2012, we asked you to contribute to a vision of reclaiming the Lincoln Woods area for our children and the community of Rutherford by turning the Woods into an environmental trail and outdoor classroom.
Through the collaborative effort of the Rutherford Shade Tree Committee, the Borough of Rutherford Mayor and Town Council, the Rutherford Board of Education and the Lincoln School Community, this vision is coming to fruition. We have worked to remediate the extensive spread of poison ivy in an environmentally efficient manner thanks to a couple of visits from a herd of goats, removed invasive trees, and trimmed dangerous dead tree branches. We have marked nature trails, set up tree trunk and boulder seating for outdoor classrooms, installed tree species markers and educational signage, and established a butterfly garden. Lincoln School classes are ready to be held in the Woods giving students hands-on experiences with our science teacher, Ms. Ogden.
Thank you for your support of this project and being a part of our journey. You are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 18, 2016 at 9am (with a rain date of October 20th at 9am; Lincoln School website will note if postponed: https://www.rutherfordschools.org/lincoln). We will gather near the Lincoln Woods sign on West Pierrepont Avenue.
We hope to see you there!
