America’s White Table by Margot Theis Raven is a story about a special table set to honor American service members who are prisoners of war, missing in action, or have died in service. As a young girl named Katie helps prepare the table for her veteran uncle, she learns the meaning behind each item—like the empty chair, the lemon slice, and the white tablecloth—all symbolizing sacrifice, loss, and hope. The book teaches the importance of remembering those who served our country. Ms. Catalano read the book and taught students about the significance of the table. Afterwards, they created their own white tables to honor its meaning.
