This month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Open-mindedness. We want the children to learn to be tolerant of ideas, culture, people, foods, and experiences. The students may not always agree with one another, but they can learn to listen, summarize and maybe even reflect on a different perspective. Jump Start Registration
The Rutherford Public School District will be offering the “Jumpstart” program again this upcoming summer, which will offer a balance of academic and social preparedness. This educational opportunity, under the guidance of professional staff members, is designed for all Lincoln students entering kindergarten or first grade in the Rutherford Public Schools in September 2015. The program is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon beginning on July 6, 2015 and ending on August 6, 2015. There will be a small charge for the program of $150. Report Card Reflections
I am sure you all received the report card for the second trimester. I would like to publically thank the teachers for all the reflection and consideration they give to this process. I am sure you would agree that the teachers’ comments show their knowledge of child development and their craft. I like that the teachers acknowledge the positive attributes of the children and then give them a suggestion on how to continue excelling. Hard Character Trait- Optimism
This month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Optimism. We want the children to learn to find the positive side of life. Research shows that people who are optimistic are healthier and have better coping strategies. At school we will be discussing how to find the goodness in a situation, learning that even rough times will pass, and seeing there may be a way to solve a problem. Gratitude
This month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Gratitude. We want the children to focus on acknowledging the good in their life and to learn to say, "thank you!." Often children will focus on what they do not have or want. We want students to take a moment to recognize what they do have. This simple gesture can change outlook and help guide someone through a difficult time.
