Ms. DeBouter’s Neighborhood 112 held its annual Applesauce Challenge on Nov. 21. After a brief lesson about common simple machines used for cooking, each student used a machine to peel, cut, and core an apple for the homemade applesauce. After some cooking and cooling, students sampled and compared conventional store-bought applesauce and our neighborhood’s homemade applesauce. Ms. Freitag helped students create a tally chart and a bar graph to represent the data. By a 2-1 margin, the homemade applesauce won the challenge!
