Getting to school on time and safely is a team effort! Whether you’re driving, walking, or biking, here’s how we can all contribute to a smooth and secure start to the school day:
Arriving on Time:
- Plan ahead: Build extra time into your morning routine to account for traffic, unexpected delays, and finding a parking spot. A rushed morning can lead to unsafe driving habits.
- Set routines: Consistent morning routines help kids (and parents!) get ready and out the door on time.
Drop-off, Parking, Crossing, and Driving Safety:
- Designated Drop-off Zones: Use designated drop-off areas and follow the school’s procedures. This keeps traffic flowing smoothly and prevents congestion. Stay in your car to help keep the line moving.
- Parking: Park only in designated parking spots. Avoid double parking, blocking crosswalks and driveways, or parking in areas marked as no parking zones. Be considerate of neighbors and other drivers.
- Crosswalks: Always use crosswalks when walking to school. Make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street. Teach children to look left, right, and left again before stepping into the crosswalk.
- Speed Limits: Adhere to posted speed limits in school zones and surrounding areas. Be extra cautious during drop-off and pick-up times when children are present.
- Distraction-Free Driving: Put away cell phones and avoid any distractions while driving. Focus on the road and be aware of your surroundings, especially near the Kindergarten Center.
