Thank you to all that were able to attend. On Wednesday, May 31, an information session was held for parents new to the Kindergarten Center. A summary of the information discussed is listed below, however all students entering the Kindergarten Center will be sent a Welcome to Kindergarten Information Packet in late August. This packet will include information specific to your child as well as general kindergarten information.
At this time, your child is invited to attend an optional Kindergarten Fun Session. This is an opportunity for your child to participate in a 30 minute kindergarten experience including a craft and tour. Your child must be registered to attend. Information regarding the Kindergarten Fun Session and sign-up has been emailed directly home to those that are registered. Those who are currently attending Lincoln or Washington Preschool will be attending with their class and should not sign up
If you were unable to attend last week’s event, please review the bullets below, highlighting some of the information shared.
- Our nurse, Erica Farrell, will be reviewing any submitted medical documentation. Please be sure that any additional information requested or any questions you may have are directed to her by June 15th to ensure a timely response before the summer break.
- School day is from 8:45 am to 2:35 pm. Main doors open at 8:30 am. Before and after school care is available through Bulldog Care, however space is limited.
- Kindergarten Center has 8 classroom teachers. Class sizes typically range from 20-25 students. Classroom aides share time between classrooms. Support services are available including speech, ESL, occupational therapy, physical therapy should a child be eligible. The District Behaviorist and elementary Student Assistant Counselor (SAC) also work with identified students to develop socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.
- Promoting your child’s independence is one of the best ways to prepare your child for school. Students should independently be able to use the bathroom, fasten and unfasten clothing, open and close containers (lunch items), carry a backpack etc.
- Provide opportunities for your child to further develop their social and emotional skills.
- Are they able to state their first and last name?
- Do they follow directions the first time they are told?
- Do they react appropriately when they lose a game or if it is played in a different manner?
- Can they identify and communicate their needs (bathroom, hungry, thirsty) or emotions?
- Can they wait their turn and take turns?
If you have answered no to any of these questions, the summer is a great time to practice and develop these skills before the start of the school year.
- Parents are encouraged to check our webpage for additional information including the supply list and the optional summer calendar.
Enjoy the summer!
