We are so happy to see our kindergarteners enjoying the fresh air more readily on the playground! After school play provides socialization opportunities for students, however, the safety of all must continue to be a priority. Just as we emphasize safety and respect during the school day, we expect the same on the playground after school. Please reinforce the following with your child and monitor your child to ensure they are being safe. Playground expectations after school has been addressed, again, with our students and your assistance with follow through is appreciated.
- No Physical Contact: This includes pushing, shoving, hitting, wrestling or any other form of physical aggression. We encourage children to use their words to resolve conflicts and play cooperatively and safely.
- No Jumping Off Equipment or Walls: Playground equipment is designed for specific uses. Jumping off slides, the brown climbing piece, or other structures can lead to serious injuries.
- Appropriate Use of Equipment and Respecting School Property: Children should use all playground equipment as intended (ex- going down a slide and not running up it). Children should not be digging, running through the bushes or flowering areas, or hanging or banging on or near the window covers and should avoid the dumpster area.
Maintain Body-Awareness: Spinning in circles, running into others, closing eyes do not allow for a child to navigate their environment safely. This could potentially impede the safety of other children and themself. - Communication: Children should be mindful of their tone and their choice of words when playing with others.
- Personal Belongings: Please be sure that personal belongings are worn correctly (not obstructing visibility, shoes remain on, jackets/sweatshirts are not limiting use of hands) and items that are not on the person including backpacks, lunch boxes, etc. are set in an area where they do not pose a potential tripping hazard and are not accessible to be used in an inappropriate manner. Shoes must remain on at all times.
