Washington School was excited to have one of our third graders, Coach Theo Wechsler, serve as “PE Teacher of the Day” through the Rutherford Education Foundation. He had the opportunity to shadow and assist Mr. Melfa throughout the day, teaching PE classes and helping staff during recess. To make the day even more special, Coach Theo and Mr. Melfa even dressed alike, embracing their roles as a team.
During this experience, Coach Wechsler took on a leadership role by teaching his classmates a new game called “Flag Tag,” demonstrating confidence, creativity, and strong communication skills. He also supported first and second-grade students during PE by helping guide teamwork at various stations.
This meaningful experience allowed Coach Theo to build leadership skills, model positive sportsmanship, and engage with students across grade levels in a supportive and active way.
