Below are the Special Services/Bus Transportation Policies set forth by the Rutherford Board of Education:
Transportation for your child is arranged thru the Special Services Department. Absolutely no changes to pick up times, locations, etc. can be made without contacting Kathie Cockroft at 201-438-7675 x 7272. Bus Drivers are not to make any changes to the transportation schedule. All changes must come through the Special Services office. All children being transported to school on the school bus will be picked up and dropped off at the curbside of your home. If your home is located in an area that is not accessible to the school bus, please notify me to arrange a designated location for your child to be picked up and dropped off.
Parents/ Guardians are responsible for putting their child on the school bus and should be available for taking their child off the school bus when they return home. Children must be awake and able to walk into the bus. Under no circumstances will the bus aide be able to leave the bus or carry any children. Children must be ready on time. If the student is not ready on time the bus will continue with the route to get all children to school on time.
Transportation must be to and from the same location five (5) days per week. We cannot accommodate partial schedules for the safety of the children, please note that any changes to a pick up/drop off location require a minimum of forty- eight (48) hours notice.
No food or drinks are to be eaten on the bus. We ask that any items be placed in the backpack. This also includes toys. All toys need to be placed in backpacks.
If your child will not be attending school due to illness or any other reason, please call the Bus Aide directly and/or the Transportation Office at 201-438-7675 ext. 4118. Messages can be left on my voice mail.
In the event of an emergency when a parent or guardian is not available for the drop off at the end of the day, you should notify the Bus Transportation Office as soon as possible to make other arrangements for your child. 201-438-7675 Ext 4118
Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated on the school bus and will be grounds for dismissal.
It is the parents/guardians responsibility to provide the Special Services Department with emergency contact information and to advise immediately of changes as they take place.
The safety of the children is of the utmost importance to the Board of Education. It is important these guidelines are followed to ensure the safety of your child’s Transportation.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Transportation Coordinator
