This month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Self-Control. Self-control is the ability to regulate and manage one’s emotions, thoughts, and behavior in the face of temptations and impulses. The components of self-control are balance, calmness, determination, confidence and will power. Teaching self-control is one of the most important skills that a parent can do for their child as self-control is a contributing factor to success later in life. By learning self-control, a child can make appropriate decisions and respond to stressful situations in ways that can yield positive outcomes. When children enter school, they are better able to understand the idea of consequences for actions and that they are in control of actions.
