Parent’s Right to Opt Out (N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.7)
Rutherford Public Schools respects the rights of parents and guardians regarding health, family life, and sex education.
In accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.7, any parent or guardian may submit a signed statement to the school principal indicating that a portion of this instruction conflicts with their conscience or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs.
Students whose families choose this option will be excused from the identified portion of the curriculum. There will be no academic penalty, and credit and graduation requirements will not be affected.
