
Rutherford Public Schools uses PowerSchool Enrollment, an online registration system for all new students.
After completing the online registration, scan and email the necessary documents to complete enrollment. If you have specific questions, contact the Registrar.

- Who is eligible for enrollment?
Children must reside with a parent or legal guardian in Rutherford. Proof of residency is required at the Board of Education enrollment office. - How old must my child be?

- Pre-K 3: 3 years old by October 1, 2026
- Pre-K 4: 4 years old by October 1, 2026
- Kindergarten: 5 years old by October 1, 2026
- Grade 1: 6 years old by October 1, 2026
- Pre-K 3: 3 years old by October 1, 2026
There are no exceptions.
- What devices can I use to register?
A desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone with internet access. Public computers are available at the Rutherford Public Library, with Wi-Fi for personal devices. You will need a valid email address. - Do I need a PowerSchool Enrollment account?
Yes. Your email address will be your username. The account allows you to save your information and return later if needed. - Can I register more than one child with the same account?
Yes. After registering your first child, you can begin registration for additional children using the same account. - Do I need to answer all questions in the form?
Questions marked with a red asterisk (*) are required. You cannot submit the registration until all required questions are completed. - What if I make a mistake?
Before submitting, you can edit fields on the review page or click “<Prev>” to return to previous pages. After submission, changes must be made by the registrar. - Who do I contact if I have technical issues?

- What happens after I submit the online registration?
You will receive a Registration Confirmation Receipt, which can be printed or saved. Afterward, scan and email your documents to the registrar to complete enrollment. Include your last name, school year, and “New Registration” in the subject line (e.g., Smith 26–27 New Registration).
Required Documents
To complete enrollment, submit the following to the registrar:
- A copy of your child’s original birth certificate
- Immunization records
- Pre-entrance physical (within 1 year of enrollment; required within 30 days of start if enrolling mid-year)
- School transcripts/report cards/transfer documents (for placement, if applicable)
- Custody/legal documents (if applicable)
- Proof of residency:
Homeowners:
- Copy of deed
- Any TWO (2) of the following with name, address, and current date: property/real estate tax bill, utility bills (electric, water, gas, internet, phone), medical/car insurance, bank or credit card statement
Renters:
- Copy of lease
- Any TWO (2) of the following with name, address, and current date: utility bills, medical/car insurance, bank or credit card statement
Living with a relative/friend:
- Contact the registrar for instructions.
Note: Online statements and “turn on” utility notices are accepted for recent moves.
