The 2016-17 academic year begins for faculty and staff on September 1. Students will report to school on Tuesday, September 6. Specific details are sent via Connect 5 or postal mail from each school. Please review all information carefully.
This is an exciting year for the District as we embark on a new era. The inaugural Pre-School program begins at Washington and Lincoln Schools. The grade realignment and curriculum growth and expansion at Pierrepont “Upper Elementary “ Schools and Union “Middle” School, along with new bell schedules at Union School and the High School, will provide greater opportunities for our students. I look forward to our continued partnership with the parents and the entire Rutherford Community.
The Rutherford schools offer many exciting opportunities and activities for our students, and while there is strong social/emotional growth that takes place during school, it is important to remember that our schools are primarily academic institutions. It is essential that you help to support the academic growth of your children by consistently and clearly expecting them to dedicate time to their studies. There is no greater thing that you can do to help prepare your children or their future.
Research shows that the most highly engaged, successful and satisfied students are those that play a role in the life of the school beyond their classroom studies. Encourage your child to join school clubs or sports teams, volunteer, and be a part of the life of their school. You can set this example by joining your school’s Parent-Teacher Association and by attending school functions. Please consult your school web pages for information about school activities and upcoming Back to School Nights.
Be on the lookout for the “Word From the Superintendent “ video message in September.
Best wishes to our students, parents, faculty, and staff for a great start to the school year!
