This week, our first graders at Washington School had some very special guest teachers—8th-grade students from Union Middle School! As part of a cross-grade collaboration, the middle schoolers planned and taught engaging 30-minute math lessons on first-grade topics like addition, subtraction, telling time, and identifying shapes.
The 8th graders did a fantastic job breaking down concepts, creating interactive activities, and keeping our young learners excited about math. Our first graders were all smiles as they practiced new skills alongside their “big kid” teachers.
It was a wonderful opportunity for leadership, learning, and connection across schools. A big thank you to Ms. Ciolko, Ms. Lyons, and our Union Middle School students for sharing their time, talent, and enthusiasm with our students!
