Meet Mrs. Louise Hetzel, Union Middle School Computer Integration Specialist, who teaches Multimedia Production, Coding, and Intro to Desktop Publishing. Students always rave about what they are learning in her classes, and they love to show off their creations.
In Mrs. Hetzel’s Desktop Publishing course, you can find students creating professional-looking magazine covers, or students analyzing the difference between function and method in Python for her Coding course. When she is not working on her electives, Mrs. Hetzel is putting together beautiful calendars that focus on social-emotional learning (SEL) and mindfulness, and she can always be counted on to develop an innovative spirit week.
Mrs. Hetzel has worked tirelessly to ensure that all student and staff members have their technological needs met; she has been a tremendous resource to staff throughout the pandemic. As we transitioned from to various schedules (remote, hybrid schedule, etc.) she provided teachers with lessons, videos, and workshops to help them reach their goals. When UMS was fully remote, Mrs. Hetzel spent a great deal of time exchanging faulty Chromebooks with students so they would not miss any instruction. She oversees umstech@rutherfordschools.org, and she provides assistance and continued support for anyone who is experiencing technological challenges.
Mrs. Hetzel’s patient, calm and compassionate demeanor puts everyone immediately at ease as they navigate the ever-changing technological waters. She is constantly posting resources and lesson ideas in her Tech Tips & Tricks Google Classroom for all UMS teachers. In a world where technology is so important, especially during these times, Mrs. Hetzel has the uncanny ability to make everything connect. UMS is lucky to have such an amazing talent. Thank you, Mrs. Hetzel, for all you do!
