In order to celebrate Read Across America day, several National Junior Honor Society students took a trip to Salomé Ureña Elementary School in Newark NJ to help 4th grade students participate in their first annual Literacy Fair. Our 8th graders presented students with the gift of literacy by donating some of their favorite books to their book buddies. They read with their students and helped them create literacy fair posters for them to share with their school community. The NJHS students also discussed their role as NJHS members with the 4th graders and shared why it is important that they strive to be a role model within their own school community. To conclude the day the 4th graders presented our NJHS members with certificates of appreciation. It was a wonderful day of literacy for all involved.
