At the October 19 meeting, the Board of Education unanimously approved the reorganization of schools. Beginning with the 2016-2017 academic year, Pierrepont School will be an Upper Elementary School for grades 4-6 and Union School will be a Middle School for grades 7-8.
I thank the Board, the administrators, supervisors, faculty, staff and the community for all of their work, interest, suggestions, and support during the fifteen months that this proposal has been under review. The reorganization brings a great opportunity for improving our already outstanding district. We have begun to put together teams to finalize the plans. Task forces will be working on curriculum, electives, staffing, bell schedules, technology, transition, traffic and transportation, co-curricular, maintenance needs, and professional development.
Last spring, we discussed a Pre-School class being started in the district, The class would be for our pre-school disabled students who currently go out of district and be opened to general education students on a tuition paying basis. This proposal was tabled as we needed to gather additional information regarding the proposal. In November, I will be presenting to the Board a final proposal for a Pre-school program. If you are interested in information about this program, I invite you to the November 16 Board of Education meeting.
Finally I invite you to ” Coffee with the Superintendent” in the High School cafeteria on Saturday, November 21 between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Please stop by to say hello, ask question , share a concern or just to have a cup of coffee.
