This week, our first graders at Washington School had some very special guest teachers—8th-grade students from Union Middle School! As part of a cross-grade collaboration, the middle schoolers planned and taught engaging 30-minute math lessons on first-grade topics like addition, subtraction, telling time, and identifying shapes. The 8th graders did a fantastic job breaking down concepts, creating interactive activities, and keeping our young learners excited about math. Discovery Day Returns to Washington School!
Our students in grades 1-3 enjoyed a day of themed activities titled "Math is Magical". They attended assembly programs, including "The Laugh Factory: Comical Magic Show" and "The Brain Show: Math Edition". Workshops included Math Muscle: Math Fluency with Mr. Bligh, Math Carnival with Mr. Faigenbaum, and Make Your Mark with Math! (Art) with Mrs. Clossey. Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
Students in Mrs. Chang and Ms. Gardeazabal's class embarked on two virtual field trips to Cuba and Ecuador to learn about each country's culture. After scanning their US Passports and boarding passes, they toured each country and learned about its geography, food, and music. Students concluded each trip with hands-on exploration of artifacts from each country.
