{"id":2458,"date":"2021-03-24T13:39:35","date_gmt":"2021-03-24T17:39:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rutherfordschools.org\/washington\/?p=2458"},"modified":"2021-03-24T13:40:05","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T17:40:05","slug":"sel-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rutherfordschools.org\/washington\/sel-day\/","title":{"rendered":"SEL Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dear Washington School Parents and Guardians,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Friday, March 26, Washington School will be joining schools and other organizations around the world to celebrate International SEL Day.\u00a0 The acronym SEL stands for Social Emotional Learning.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For the past several years, the social and emotional development of our students and staff has been an area of sustained focus at Washington School and throughout our district.\u00a0 We have dedicated a substantial amount of time and energy in an ongoing effort to foster and maintain a positive and productive environment for collaboration and learning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At Washington School, we have a Professional Learning Community (PLC) that meets regularly to research successful SEL strategies and programs that we implement on a daily basis.\u00a0 Our Student Assistance Counselor, Ms. Emily Bregman, is the chairperson for this committee.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recently, our Social Emotional Learning PLC put together an excellent slide presentation filled with engaging and rewarding SEL activities.
