The Grade 3 students in Ms. Hetzel and Mrs. Podolanczuk's class recently put their reasoning and creative skills to work, while discovering what makes a bridge strong. Through the Mystery Doug Science series, students viewed videos explaining the workings and designs of bridges. Students worked in pairs, using 2 pieces of paper and 50+ pennies in designing their own bridge. (2 large books were used as "banks" on the side of the bridge.) Our strongest bridge held 135 pennies! Discovery Day
On Friday we celebrated our annual Discovery Day. The theme this year was "Creating Calm and Growing Grit". It supported our school goal of mindfulness and growth mindset. Students attended two all-school assemblies - I Can: The Grit and Growth Mindset Show and The Health and Fitness Game Show. Students also participated in various workshops. Under the direction of our art teacher, Mrs. Clossey, the students created glitter jars for stress relief and painted kindness rocks to inspire others and spread positivity. Scooterville
Scooterville returned to Washington School last week. During this annual event, our students learned important lessons on pedestrian and traffic safety while motoring through out make-believe town. Students also visited "Scooterville Hospital" for a lesson on hand washing/hygiene. They also had the opportunity to play Scooter Basketball, Scooter Volleyball and Scooter Soccer, among other games.
