Repollet regarding a recent court ruling which affects high school graduation requirements. We will share information with stakeholders as it is made aware to districts. As of now, we will maintain the current graduation requirements as per the Department of Education, until directed otherwise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">January 2, 2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOn December 31, 2018, the Superior Court of NJ issued a decision on the appeal from the 2016 adoption of amended regulations at N.J.A.C 6A:8, Standards and Assessment, by the New Jersey State Board of Education. The decision of the Superior Court finds that N.J.A.C 6A:8-5.1(a)(6), 5.1(f) and 5.1 (g) are contrary to the intent of the statute and the current regulations as enacted are stricken. The court has stayed the decision for 30 days for the Department to decide whether to appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court. The Department and Attorney General\u2019s Office are reviewing options and assessing next steps. \u201cThroughout this process, the guiding factor of utmost importance will continue to be what is best for the students of New Jersey,\u201d said Lamont O. Repollet, Commissioner of Education. \u201cThe Department aims to minimize the impacts that any future actions, as a result of this decision, will have on students and schools.\u201d More information will be forthcoming as we continue to review all options.
