We want the children to learn to be tolerant of ideas, culture, people, foods, and experiences. The students may not always agree with one another, but they can learn to listen, summarize and maybe even reflect on a different perspective. The teachers will teach open-mindedness by discussing points of view in literature, history or resolving a conflict between two students. The second graders have been participating in a vegetable and fruit study. The students have been open-minded to try new foods and recognize people eat all kinds of foods. Parents can develop open-mindedness by having students experience a new cultural event such as the Rutherford, Multicultural Festival on May 16<sup>th<\/sup>. Parents can also encourage their children to listen to new music or try some new food.\u00a0\u00a0 As always, we all encourage our students to embrace what makes us unique, rather than be disrespectful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Open-mindedness.
